I’m Nathan Tomáš Maschler, a media enthusiast who keeps up with current trends, formally trained in the field of filmmaking; with majors in Multimedia Production and Media Studies. I have been in the A/V, graphic and motion design field for 13 years now. I’ve led creative teams and thrive in collaborative environments and I’m a meticulous planner, who keeps organized in order to consistently meet deadlines. I’m creatively driven and a good listener, fueled by passion, with a refined base of knowledge and vast hands-on experience. In my free time I enjoy watching films, playing board games and taking care of my pet parrot. Bouldering is my sport of choice. I also love travelling the world and experiencing new things, especially food and cultural offerings. Moved myself and my business to my home town in the US in pursuit of new opportunities.

From a very young age I fell in love with bringing multimedia projects to life. I would make short videos with my friends for YouTube, create music in Garage Band and Logic Pro, and even my own (very awesome) website using html in the 5th grade. After middle-school my mother, sister and I moved to the Czech Republic to began a new chapter there.

I was lucky to be one of the top 60 out of 700+ students who applied and passed talent and math examinations to earn a spot at quite a renowned high-school in Prague, specializing in film and television production. This was where I was able to truly develop my skills and begin applying them in practice, eventually earning enough from my internships to build my own PC. The people I encountered studying at SPŠST motivated me to continue to learn and improve, and as a result I ventured into freelancing while pursuing my studies.

My major at the University of Economics, Multimedia in Economic Practice, equipped me with the tools not only to create but to do so efficiently. I learned project management and budgeting while also gaining large amounts of practical experience both as a team player and entirely solo in various specializations. At this time I directed my first short films with actual budgets, and gained experience in many different fields of film production. Clean editing and visual balance came naturally to me, leading me to collaborate with DFSZK, a developmental film and acting organization, as a Director of Photography and eventually, Senior Video Editor.

My curiosity further led me to explore nutrition and mental wellbeing, which had a large impact on my perspective and health, and renewed an interest in physical activity that has never waned since. As I completed my bachelor’s degree, my focus shifted from film to graphic design, and I started my own media group while continuing my studies. At this time, I was also heavily increasing my workload in order to move into my own apartment. Juggling work and school was somewhat challenging at times, but I’m not short on commitment and the drive to continue forward until I meet my goals, and I managed to stabilize.

The major I chose was Media and Communications Studies. At Charles University I gained insight into the complete opposite perspective to what I had studied up until that point, instead of looking at multimedia from the practical side of creation and production, I would learn to see it as a powerful and transformative tool which shapes society and the current media landscape. Additionally, I paid special attention to the power of transmedia storytelling and the profound impact that digital algorithms have had on human culture. Nevertheless, I continued to progress my artistic passions and finally acted on the desire to make my own real website.

Since then, I’ve collaborated on many multimedia endeavours, built long-lasting relationships with my clients and married the love of my life, Yana (who is also an extraordinary photographer). We then took ourselves and our work and moved back to my home, the city of Santa Monica, together. In the end, what I’d finally realized after so many years of various creative works and passions, is that no matter the situation, as long as I can channel my creativity and wholeheartedly dedicate myself to my work, I find happiness and purpose.

My life has been enriched by an enduring passion for acquiring practical skills-especially those that help bring ideas to life. I consistently seek opportunities to enhance and refine my abilities, and as a result, I’ve developed an array of creative media skills from the ground up in the fields of video production, graphic design and multimedia marketing.

I like being presented with challenges, and then working my way through them, and I’m no stranger to teaming up to do so. Many of my proudest moments are from the brainstorming stages of team projects, working as a unit and bouncing ideas off of each other.  I enjoy supporting a team, helping shape a shared vision, and doing my part to keep things moving forward.

My passion lies in contributing to endeavors larger than myself, aiding others in realizing their personal goals and being a positive influence on the lives of anyone I may encounter, while all the while, remaining dedicated to lifelong learning, and staying open to whatever new lessons life and the evolving world of media might offer.
